It was all wheels on deck as Northwest Arkansas cyclers bid adieu to the revelry of the 2024 Slay Ride hosted in the scenic vistas around Buffalo Creek Trail Head Parking, Pettigrew, AR. The ringing of bike bells mingled with laughter as riders from across the region came together to celebrate the love of cycling and the close-knit community that supports it.
The event was a resounding success, with the atmosphere charged with the kind of friendly camaraderie unique to bike enthusiasts. Participants are now enthusiastically sharing snapshots of their experiences—riders in vibrant gear, the hum of tires on dirt, the triumphant post-ride banter over cold brews—on social media, tagging the event to keep the memory of this joyous day alive.
Amidst the thrill of the ride, a significant stride was made towards advancing the cycling community’s governance. The Ozark Trail Runners, a devoted posse of pedal pushers, attained official recognition, becoming a branch of the prestigious Ozark Off Road Cyclists (OORC). A heartfelt applause and stream of congratulatory messages welcomed the newly minted board members: Mathew Myers seizing the presidential saddle, Will Landreth securing the financial tracks as Treasurer, and Megan James, now the documenting Secretary.
Moreover, the OORC board welcomed fresh faces as well, with Hannah Catt rolling in 'at large,' Chris Lindsay gearing up as rides coordinator, John Sage mapping the trails ahead as the trails coordinator, and Rob Reno taking the lead as president. Kudos resounded for their commitment to steer NWA cycling into the future.
The ride ended, but spirits soar high with anticipation. Whispers have begun about a new soiree on the horizon—a 'Christmas in July' ride that promises the same exhilarating experience in the balmy midsummer of Arkansas. Though details are still under wraps, the excitement is palpable.
